After months of coordination and planning, I am proud to announce that SK has a new faster server! Our new machine is an Athlon 1.4Ghz with 1024MB of memory and dual RAID hard drives for added data protection. In addition, the old machine will remain in service as SK's web server, further reducing the load on the game. In addition to giving us more reliability and room to grow, tick lag on the new machine is reduced to being almost unnoticable.

The new machine is scheduled to start running the game on Thursday, July 25 at around noon Pacific Daylight Time. We will shut down the game an hour prior to that in order to make final file transfers and reset the port addresses. There may be a period of time during which your local DNS server may not have the right address for the game, but we are setting up some temporary port forwarding to minimize the problem.

You can eliminate forwarding time by always using the correct domain names that are set up for the game:
MUD = telnet mud.shatteredkingdoms.org 1996
WEB = http://www.shatteredkingdoms.org

Due to some miscommunication, we've missed the appointed time to do the server switch. So it may happen at any time today or we may hold off yet for a few more days. Don't worry, it's still gonna happen.

If you can read this, you probably aren't having any problems connecting to the new server. On the off-chance you are having problems, you can attempt to connect using it's IP address:

MUD: 65.242.224.4
WEB: 65.242.224.5

As we continue to smooth out problems, I expect performance to improve.
