if we are in fact talking gnome mud clients I would recommend gMUDix over gmud. It has always seemed to perform better for me.

Yeah I think its an internet issue. I use the college modem :P which is crap really so im probably connecting at an even lower rate at the moment.

And once I can afford to upgrade Ardith, trust me I will. Moving out of the parentals and getting used to bills n all that fun crap.

nah, alli I 'preciate it and all, but I know its my internet. I talked to my brother about it. Hes a techie, he knows its the internet. I live with him so he has to deal with the same issue when surfing.

We just have to wait till I get a job, so I can get the money flow.

Ill add my two bits from back in the day, but i think its been touched on already.

Way back when.... 15 years ago or so.... sheeeeeeeesh. If i tried to dial into aohell (was only service i had) and got connected at less then what my modem was trying for. 14.4 modem connected at 12. something, my modem would work for crud. It had to do with the modem continualy trying to get a higher speed connection.. and in turn it ended up killing bandwidth. Setting the modem down to 9600 usually helped alot. (Later i found the setting to turn off the continual speed adjustments and had no problem at 12k... but the first setting is easier to find in most cases)

More then likely if your modem is connecting at a lower speed then it should its line noise from inside your house. Very typical of an older home, or its line noise outside your house... typical for homes out in the middle of nowhere (new or old) where the phone lines have only recently (in my life time) become private and not party lines.

I'll not rant about how an upgrade to the phone lines a decade ago and everyone could be on 1 meg modems instead of needing dsl/adsl/satelite.

You know the problem does clear up instantly with a higher speed connection so at this point I'm thinking I'll just wait until high speed is an option. Then again I am lazy. Anybody that isn't really into setting adjustment on their computers I would advise against altering them. My brother is living proof that the most minor of changes can trash a machine.

Disconnect any unnecessary devices from the phone line, and try to have as few adapters/extensions and other connection interruptions between the modem and the phone's wall-socket. This is true for both dialup and DSL.

There are also spyware programs that use your computer to transmit files elsewhere on the internet. If you haven't run any scans for that sort of thing, you might want to see about doing that. I'll post a few free programs when I get back to my home computer.
