If I have items that I assume are above my level (and thus vunerable to log-out thieves) can I bury the items before I log off, and dig them up when I log on again? (Assuming another PC doesn't dig them up while I'm away.)

Yes, but as you stated someone can come along and dig them up. If the game crashes or is restarted for any reason they'll be lost as well, but the game typically stays up for days on end, so this strategy isn't all that bad.

it is possible but you risk other people taking them. Also you risk their being a crash or a reboot. With one of those your item will be gone.

Yes and no.

Yes you can and there is a good chance it will be there. However if its a unique item, the server is reset, or the item rots then item will not be there.

Thanks.

Is there ANY way-- like eventually owning a house or vault or something similar-- to protect 'stored' items from system resets?

I'd like to roleplay building my own library. Is there a way to do that despite game resets?

Carry the books around and don't get looted/junked after getting killed. At least, for now. There are a few reasons why a purchaseable building immune to system resets would be a bad idea in the current environment of SK.

That's sad.

I wanted to start collecting every available map in the game world. To do that I would have to carry them around everywhere?

Currently, yes.

Otherwise, players would just pile every type of limited item and valuable thing into their own private vaults and little would be circulating in game. That, my friend, would be a bad thing.

Well technically you can buy deeds to houses, however if there is a reboot or you die you loose it. Also someone can pick the lock to your house (or bash the door down) and take everything.

write your own book of maps. Get the imms to make the books spawn in your library.
