Essentially by seeing information on one character (i.e. the WHO list as your alt) then using that information on another character (by logging in and starting to roleplay or - much worse - PK them) you're sharing information across characters. I doubt someone would bring this to our attention if it was roleplay related, but nobody wants to be PK'd because their name was seen in the WHO list by the alt of their nemesis.

This statement is completely false! Deciding to log in is an OOC decision. You are sharing information only with yourself! It has NOTHING to do with what your character knows....

Please remember this is the NEWBIE board. We don't need to get into semantics that you telling yourself IC what you know OOC is/is not multiplaying.

What IS multiplaying is taking knowledge you have FROM BEING LOGGED IN THE GAME AS A CHARACTER and TRANSFERING WHAT YOU KNOW FROM BEING LOGGED IN AS A CHARACTER (EVEN LOOKING AT THE WHO LIST) TO ANOTHER CHARACTER. I don't think we need to argue this point with Alshain.

The case being presented here is "Is it OK to switch characters to interact with someone as another character because I see them on the who list?" The answer is no, from Alshain. He DOES suggest if there is a significant need to change characters, to take some time, do something else, and come back to the game, but he's also specifically said, "you're flirting with deletion by hopping between characters."

If there is something further which needs to be discussed outside of what staff has already answered the newbie question for, I would take it to another forum to not be confusing the newbies. :)

I think newbies are smart enough to follow a conversation about the rules.

It is fine if you think Alshain is telling us about a rule that he made up (that you need to wait x amount of time between characters), but I am saying that his reference of multiplaying as the specific rule is wrong. Logging out one character and logging in another is NOT multiplaying UNLESS you transfer information.

Any character can get a full who list immediately upon login. There is no need to transfer a who list from one character to another (unless only one can detect hidden/spirits).

It's totally fine for immortals to create whatever rules they wish, but switching characters does not constitute multiplay. I would like to see a specific rule added to the help file to make it clear when you can be punished for switching characters when no multiplay is involved, if the immortals or community is really intent on regulating when you can log in or out.

Wait... So lets say I log on with char A (say...my necro). I am farting around and getting kinda bored when I see all of my other character's friends logging on. Wanting to play the game with someone, I finish my in game errind, log off, and log back on with character B.

Are you saying that is multi-playing??? If so, I strongly (and idealistically) disagree. At what point does the realistic understanding that this is a game come into play here? A game that we would like to play with others. Role playing is fine, but who wants to be enslaved to such a fanatically religious concept of "role playing" as that?

meanwhile, newbs, learn from this thread of shame - play one character and enjoy it. When you get bored, take a break from playing SK until you want to play again.

I have to agree. This is the best way to stay clean, and keep the game fun.
