Invalid aliases are when you try to assign an alias to a command that's already in the game. For example, you can't assign an alias to the letter 'h' because 'h' already stands for 'hit' in the game. Try out a different combination of letters.
This is untrue. Futhermore, you can actually work the system by creating an alias to cover a command, and still have access to the original command. Case in point:
Code:
[HP:100%] [ME:100%] [PE:100%]

Alias added.
[HP:100%] [ME:100%] [PE:100%]

Xorvithien's wildly-colored Jester's cap jingles as he giggles happily.
[HP:100%] [ME:100%] [PE:100%]

You giggle.
[HP:100%] [ME:100%] [PE:100%]

Thyki,
When creating an alias, try to use the full command. I've noticed it's a little glitchy sometimes when using the partial command, but I haven't been able to gather enough information to pinpoint what exactly what the bug is, so I haven't submitted a report.
