Wasn't sure where to post this, so I'll put it here. Tonight I was spammed with someone creating and deleting to get the best possible stats for their character. I don't usually mind if someone screws up and has to do it over once (maybe twice at most) but this was over a dozen times. And this wasn't a true newbie doing it either, at least I don't believe so as they didn't have the title as being one.

I simply ask that people think about the questions they are being asked, it is fairly obvious to know which stat they refer to. Every time a character is created a mentor gets a message saying they have enrolled in the training area. It gets rather annoying to be spammed with this, considering it is a tell and interrupts those that are talking with camo/invis/hidden/dead (if you don't have spirit sight). I know some of you will say just type mentor to stop getting the messages, but we worked hard to get such a system in place and it is not something I want to disable just so people can maximize their stats, if you are that concerned about it, you should know how to answer every question to get the best stats anyway.

See help multiplaying.

If you fear you may have to attempt a few times to make a character, at least have a list of names to go by. This just seems like a dumb way to attract immortal attention.

I don't see a problem with rerolling a character several times with the same name, within reason. If you don't even get out of the creation hall, I really don't see it as a problem to keep deleting/recreating.

If you're doing it a dozen times, it sounds like you need some serious help however.

Perhaps you could inform the newbie indirectly that you've received a message each time they entered the realms proper from creation...

You tell Zool, 'I've been informed that you enrolled - yet again! Perhaps you could decide whether or not to enrol once and for all, hmm? Contact me again if you need any assistance.'

You're obviously out of the creation hall if mentors are getting spammed. While the newish code disallowing attribute checks during the creation process prohibits one from seeing more exact information thus causing some of this kingdom-picking before recreating, there are also those who have created, dropped their platinum and recreated to gain the coin necessary to bypass the newb gear.

I'm the type of person to go to the school when I see this sort of spam just to look for stuff to junk.

True, if you see someone obsessively recreating, feel free to investigate for possible cheating. If you do find a cheat, log whatever information you have and try sending a prayer about it. I'd rather have an immortal dealing with newbie cheating than another player, if at all possible.

How about just not notifying a mentor if the character isn't "New to Pyrathia"? At the very least, someone who says he's not new probably doesn't want his hand held at level 1.

When I played a mentor, I used to send courtesy tells to just-created characters without the "New to Pyrathia" flag. None of them ever accepted help, or cared to roleplay just then. Veteran players seem to want time to come up with a good adjective and description before their social debut - as well as the odd stat reroll.

I guess the big question here is does the staff support a stat reroll or not, parcularly now that we have the mentoring system?

Was a re-roll feature itself ever considered for the Halls of Creation, with maybe a bit of some sort of pecho'd pain/something?...... That way mentors would never have to see someone entering a starting area until they were done with all that....

On the other hand, the creation halls do not allow you to use the att comand ... if that's the case, shouldn't a new character be simply be un-rerollable for a period of time (Illegal name untill next reboot). Or, I suppose the staff could get really 'cruel' and if a level one character deletes, their pfile is put into some temp location until the monthly reboot, where if a player attempts to recreate the same named character you get 'Character recently deleted. Do you wish to restore <character>?' (option to remake character unavailable)

There does seem to be a gray area left here. I too have seen someone recreate over half a dozen times in a row. It could also be consisdered spam.

I'd originally thought about that. However a lot of times newbies answer NO to the newbie question out of a foolish sense of pride. These are exactly the people I don't want to get missed by the mentor system.

I don't see anything wrong with re-rolling characters as long as it doesn't exceed five or so. I wouldn't want to see hard restrictions on the name.
