So I log into the game the a few days to discover some of my items had been stolen while I "slept." Didn't know why, figured it was a game mechanic. Tried logging out in a far off place, happened again. Tried logging in an inn, it still happened. So I figured I'd try buying a room key, and then logging in the a room with a locked door.

So I log on today and yay, nothing stolen.

Only I no longer have the key to the room I'm in. The door is locked. I can't get out.

Help?

Most MUDs I've played have a mechanic so that you can't use equipment that is above your level, however in SK, you can use higher level eq at level 1 but when you log out and back in, there's a "chance" of those high level items being "stolen". It will happen no matter where you log out, and to get out of the room, I'd say just use the "recall" command.

Basically, if you're level 10 and your sword is a level 15 sword, there's a chance it can be stolen from you by the game. Also, I think the chances increase/decrease based on the difference in level. Like a level 49 character can keep a level 50 piece of EQ for a long time, unless they get really, really unlucky. But a level 10 character with a level like 30 piece of eq is almost guaranteed to lose it.

The idea behind this mechanic, AFAIK is to prevent people from having junk characters that all they do is hoard stuff with, which is already a problem, even with you needing to be high level to keep stuff.

Thanks, I found the reason things were being stolen in the FAQ. Perfectly understandable. But why did the room key disapear?

95% of keys in the game are "NOSAVE" meaning you'll lose it no matter what if you log out. This mainly applies only to keys, though there are occasionally other items with this flag.

Didn't know recall was an option (newb :D ) Thanks! I'm free!

Though I do find it counter-intuitive that if you decide to get a room in an inn to "sleep", you'll be trapped there.

From my experience inn rooms are hardly ever used anymore. I'm honestly not sure they've ever served a real purpose, I don't think you get the "regen bonus" in them, I think it's only the main Inn Room.

Since your question wasn't directly answered, I'll take a jab at it. As mentioned, the key is a "no-save" item. The dominant reason for this is that there is usually only one key per room, so you could, in theory, buy all the keys to all the inns, and no one would be able to get into any of the rooms. Had this no-save restriction not been there, you could keep people out for a very long time...

100% agreed. I'll see if there's something that can be done about this.
