I would not mind seeing that, considering I have done so myself. You are an all-powerful wizard who can cast all sort of powerful spells, and you cannot conjure a little ball of energy or play with the shadows?

[edit] But of course as long as it is not the ‘rips you in half’ part. [/edit]

Once with Seromet I did this emote...

emote flicks his hand suddenly towards the priest, the gesture brutally flinging the man against the far wall.

After which I landed a critical FoD to stun on Mezcao. That was pretty cool.

So, I can see the "flips out and rips you in half" thing being done...if you know it can be done. Like Slayne cleaving a naked journeyman if provoked. I bet he really could flip out and rip them in half.

I always do emotes like that. If it's a mage they usually have telekinesis and can lift things from drawers or slam doors without touching them.

When Satomi and I did RP to take away her leadership it was all post PK magic emoting. I set her corpse on fire with the Maidens corrosive greeny goodness. To which I'd emoted it showed her in the corrupted, aged look that the Maidens fire is RPed to be.

With Renidius I had aliases for spells. Holy word sent spears of light lancing out from him, bolt of glory was a kamehameha kinda blast, flamestrike was him rasing his hand and calling starlight from the heavens (yup even during the day!). There was probably more...

So I think it can work in PK situations aswell. It just adds more flavor.

I remember that clown of Meissa when I played Abdar, Benzo. That guy was the shtuff. He'd just manifest it and balance on it or something.

Besides the little stuff of shielding yourself from rain, if you ARE an all powerfull wizard or a HF of a faith you can go abit farther. Like summoning unholy fire to burn around you, or shining light to envelope you.

Hell, with Seromet I logged out with a...

pemote form falls apart into a multitude of insects, maggots, and other vile vermin which at once scurry towards the shadows.

...I also had me a Throne of PEstilance due to emotes. These things were more RPable because of Thuban's robes of kick-assery that I had.

edit: Falicis also used to sit on ceilings. Thats cause he was a vampire :P

I think it's fine to describe the gestures necessary for the preparation of a spell/skill or to illustrate the spell's manifestation - as long as it is within the character's capacity. Just don't exaggerate.

*mutters something about acorn storms*

hehe. I remeber nxs' Iori used to have an emote before his blitzkrieg, like some dark version of Link's 360 charged swordstrike.

The FoD thing was pretty bad RP. It would have been more credible if Seromet was actually any good at PK. You never killed me unless I was either AFK or alone vs. you and lots of undead. And I SUCK.

Sounds to me like the sort of things the pose command used to do.

I still remember having a blast with that command on my first sorc. Once he got gate he kept 'opening windows to other planes and looking around'.

Basically, the rest of my point was already made by Benzo, so... :drunk:

Lorzatu used to have a bunch of emotes before a lot of his spells, I remember. That's where I got the idea.

It was something like,

alias blitz emote pulls his blade back, then turns in a full-circle, slashing at his enemies!;blitzkrieg

I, when thinking about it in RPG terms... Consider what I am talking about something alike the thing mages can do in AD&D... Their first spell....fawk, whats it called... Sounds good to me. I used to do stuff like this all the time with my sorc. I even tried to make it look like real spellcasting [Emote begins to concentrait; wait a few seconds; emote utters (some random string of letters);emote (spell effect)]. Didn't seem to bother anyone, and was often found to be amusing.

I also had emotes to add flavor to commands that I otherwise felt were a bit hollow/went contrary to the RP feel of the game (IE: carelessly and effortlessly disposing of the corpses of large creatures and former humans struck me as very bizzarre... so I had a "cremate" command set up for junking with emotes).

I agree. In my (not even remotely humble) opinion, emotes should follow the same rules as free-form RPs: Don't presume success upon any subject being attacked, and don't power-play (and keep your abilities consistent with your character. I still have a very dark memory of that centaur barbarian that created magic snowballs XD).
