Once upon a time you could use emotes to just say stuff. Incomprehinsible gestures were added, which occur when someone's speaking a language you don't understand. When first added, they had a chance of occuring until you'd perfected the language, but that's not the case anymore. This is why pets can't emote.

Well, from what I have seen - If you dont understand the language a person is speaking and the person emotes you will always get incomprehinsible gestures. However, if you have a limited understanding, based on your skill level, you will get a mix of Incomprehinsible gestures and the actual emote. If someone is awful at a language, spam your emote enough times and they might eventually see your emote.

Now, if I am mistaken, I am sorry for spreading misinformation.

But you can understand whether or not someone's nodding their head. It shouldn't have to do with whether or not you know the language.

I know people might abuse this, but I haven't seen anyone abusing it...

Another alias question from the newb over here..

I somehow managed months ago to have a TWO WORDED alias, which of course does not work, nor can I seemingly delete it. Is there something someone can tell me how to fix, or have I managed to break something?

Within an alias the variables &1, &2...&9 may be used to represent
arguments given with an alias. For example:

> alias killer cast fireball &1; cast harm &2
> killer ghoul ghost

would cast fireball on the ghoul, followed by harm on the ghost.

The special variable &* represents the entire input line after an
alias:

> alias tr tell rasmussen &*
> tr Hi there. How are you today?
You tell Rasmussen, 'Hi there. How are you today?'

Why can I not cast harm and fireball? :(

I think there were some changes to the alias code that would explain why you do not use the & arguments and it still works.

I never use the numbers... I always just use &*. I have this alias on all my chars...

alias coins get all.money &*;put all.money &*

That way I can manipulate my money quicker. If I type 'coins' without an arguement it will pick the coins up off the floor. If I add an arguement, such as 'cloak' or 'sack', it will get the money from the container and put it back into that same container. I do this to compress tiny piles of coins into larger ones, or to flash my coinage to my prompt. Also you can use that alias to jack money from corpses, you can take things from a corpse, but not put things back in.

I also use alias' to store information that I'd forget but my char would remember, things like keywords and what not.

Hell I've even used them to store what pade of a web-comic I was reading at the time.

personally, my only universal alias is
x examine &*
I don't even type l person anymore, I just x them. Same goes for items. It's much easier than the l or l in commands.
