how large of an effect does charisma have on the charm person spell?
Is it enough that at later levels it will actually work? The last thing I want to happen at grand master is having a character whose charm person skill doesn't work, and has low stats because of it.

I do know it plays a big part in it. I do not know how much CHA you need to make it effective, but I do know you need fairly good CHA.

It has almost nothing to do whether you can actually charm something (that's more the case with dominate, I'm unsure about whether it ups the level), but with charm you can always net another GM, even with low cha, it does have something to do with your order lag, though.

I agree; I'm pretty sure that Charisma has nothing to do with the charm success or not, but keep in mind that when ordering your charmed person, or even your pet, to perform commands, that you will be lagged. Depending on a character's Charisma, this lag could be anywhere from almost four combat rounds to nearly less than one combat round.

The real thing i am trying to figure out is whether i have somewhere better to put those points (such as con, or maybe even dex)

You really should max out int, wis, then art...those are the 3 most important things for a sorc. You are a gnome, which makes you even more dirty once you get all that. Get some con and str mods, but I don't think focusing att points on those is a good use of them now. Mods are easy enough to come by for str and con, ask IC, plenty of people know and will be willing to help.

Charms are one of the best things about a sorc. And if you plan on doing PK, or just getting around, having a higher CHA will make the lag time so much less. CON is nice cause you have more HP, DEX avoids dirt kicks, STR will allow you to carry more. Dirt kick will screw over a sorc so it's nice to have a high DEX.
