I think you are remembering complaints about familiarity. It did make it so that it wasn't worth it to stack 10 levels there anymore. But that's not about stacking, it's just poor experience gain in general.

There is a cap. It's roughly ten levels. I hit it (easily) with a melee project I was playing around with. Nowhere I could go would tick beyond "just discovered" familiarity no matter how much grinding I did.

I'm not sure what that means. It sounds like you are saying there is a bug whereby you can avoid the penalties of familiarity.

I think he's saying he had like 10 levels stacked, and went to a new area and was grinding there and he wouldn't go past "You just discovered" meaning he was getting no XP.

Dulrik, why you always gotta think the worst about people!

As was pointed out (but as probably needs restating), I mean I was getting no exp, and had roughly ten levels stacked. I was not abusing familiarity, it was not a bug that allowed me to gain exp without increasing my familiarity in an area. It was a cap to the exp I could stack.

In dulrik's defense, I understood the same thing as him when I read that post.

What level was your character at the time? What were the highest level areas you were visiting?

I was jman 1 or maybe 2, and I was in the orc hive with someone around my level.

You were effectively an Expert trying to get XP in an area rated Journeyman to Mentor. You MIGHT have been able to get some experience from that area, but only from the more elite opponents. Sounds like it is probably not a bug.

I never said it was a bug, I said it was a cap. And the person I was with ticked familiarity twice without me ticking once. We went through...maybe ten to fifteen repops of the orcs and cave bats. Even grinding NPCs five-ten levels below yours should produce some exp at fresh familiarity, with group bonus, after that many.
