The quote above is the key part, but Achernar's whole post is a good explanation of our reasons against botting.

I'm not really talking about botting-but when I'm leveling, I'll sleep and alt-tab to say this window...
I'm assuming you mean you'll alt-tab to your web browser; if you're alt-tabbing back to the MUD client, then just hit Enter afterwards. There is no immortal discretion with botting - if you are caught with the automatic script, like what you've described, your character will be deleted. Botting is very unfair to other players who play the game properly and is not tolerated. No surprise then why everyone advises newbies to avoid any script that automates your character and/or prevents voiding out due to inactivity.

That is not botting because you would be at the keyboard the whole time. So you are good there.
Automating your character is the key concept we're talking about. If you're not controlling your character personally (i.e. you're not typing the commands "at the keyboard"), then you're running the gauntlet. Let's not get into a legal loophole discussion - don't automate at all and there'll be no deletions due to botting. Everyone's happy.

As far as a timer, the best advice I can give you and get a stop watch and time the amount of time it takes to regen your mana and then you know how much time you have to spend in other windows.
I absolutely agree with this, given the calculation described could even be done in a script: the key difference here is a
reminder popup or local echo on your mud client letting you know that a tick has probably passed. If nothing is sent to the MUD by your script, it's not a bot. Please re-read this paragraph to ensure you understand the difference between bots that automate your character on the MUD and a script that only affects your MUD client locally.
