Armor/weapon obviously means Armor or weapon.

Sure they do. Belts have slots and places for buckles. Clothes have buttons or strategically cut shapes into the fabric/leather. Hats have items worn on the brim. Shoes can have charms attached to them.

For imagination's sake, let's assume your sorceror looked like THIS:

Here are some places you could put a "materia" like symbol:
Hairpin
Belt buckle on upper left arm of dress
The cleft of the furry part of the dress (mmm....)
buckles on the waist, and wherever else there are buckles (there are a lot of buckles on this garment)
Also, you could cut symbol shaped patterns into the cloth itself, and attach something there with loops of metal.
