Is it not of use against weapons with elemental attacks? Say, a burning spear?

Pretty sure that RE helps against freezing bite, shocking bite, and flaming bite.

Again, the damage reduction of RE, even at GM, is not significant. At brewed levels, it might as well not exist.

OA is right about that. It's primary use is to avoid magma cling. While it does make a difference with other spells (And against elemental weapon damage as well) the different is much less noticeable, even from a casted spell.
