That... would be an AWESOME addition for low level players.

Welcome aboard Demon! And great work! Already here less than a week and you contributed a great idea!

I suppose I should really put some sort of confirmation in the shop dialog for those items. "That item looks like it might be tempting for thieves. Are you sure you want to buy it?"

At the risk of sounding bitter or sarcastic.. wouldn't that violate the opaqueness the game tries so hard to frustrate players with? ^_-

I'll count that as a 'yes' vote.

I'd approve. Maybe even give different statements depending on the aura of the shopkeep. "You're far too scrawny to hold onto this for long." "Are you sure about this? I'd hate to see you lose this to thieves."

An excellent inclusion, Mythril.

I mean I won't say no to you giving some kind of warning about purchasing high level items, that would be awesome. Maybe even just give the warning for the first so many levels that a player gains, after that, you are on your own. It is mighty frustrating to spend the first 2 platinum you earn (which takes quite awhile by the way) on a shortsword only to have it immediately stolen :)

Haha, thanks. Though I can't take credit for that completely. Scanning through the old newbie posts, there were a few other occasions were people were frustrated by the thieves coming in the night :D

Something like that almost made me delete and never come back, this was aided by the fact that in the city I started in, there was no better armor than tanso to buy.. i had NO IDEA it was so far out of my class..

Along these lines, it'd be nice if alignment restrictions would factor into the sale. I've purchased a few things (i think just wands) and placed them in a container for later use, only to be zapped by them when I pull them back out.

Back to acquiring wealth, and buying stuff that's too good for you. There are definitely many characters in the game who have bank accounts so full they can't put any more in, who are willing to throw away coin on low-level characters they deem acceptable. And you can get some nice weapons (that will get stolen) for free that way, too. Or some middlin weapons that won't get stolen.

If you're a newb and it's obvious you're a newb, but you're not playing King of Morea or something, you can quite easily catch a lot of breaks and be fed gear, coin, and info that leads to more gear and coin and levels. Definitely check out the inn where you "recall" to for information. Definitely scan the "who" list for suggestions of appropriate characters to ask for information and help. And playing helpless doesn't hurt, in several of the kingdoms. Your char can "grow" out of helpless into a tyrant later, if you so choose. But starting out helpless (as opposed to Sargas's gift to the World) for freebies and free info isn't bad, either.
