I'm used to the green default, having seen it for eons. As for dummies who actually call for black in their titles or communication, if I think it's important enough, I'll highlight the text to read it. The only thing I use black for is to make a nameless group.

... I use Mushclient.. But mine's prettier than Minette's . I normally make a few things darker and make my background a dark blueish color so I can see.

My default is gray. Fireclient, though, (the one I recommend to new players because you just click and go, nothing to personalize) has green as default.

I usually tweak black ($0) to a very dark gray so I can read it, but all builders are specifically told not to use it in their areas.

By the way, we're not immune from the default colour scheme of zmud - the adjectives webpage shows the incorrect colours
