The rule that this thread is dancing around is HELP MULTIPLAY. The punishment for breaking this rule is deletion for all characters involved: so for those who are flirting with this rule, don't be surprised when you lose both your alt and your main when an immortal calls you on it.

Essentially by seeing information on one character (i.e. the WHO list as your alt) then using that information on another character (by logging in and starting to roleplay or - much worse - PK them) you're sharing information across characters. I doubt someone would bring this to our attention if it was roleplay related, but nobody wants to be PK'd because their name was seen in the WHO list by the alt of their nemesis.

My advice: never use any IC information or information from other players to dictate which character to play. Some suggestions instead:
1. Flip a coin to decide which character to play on any given session, if they are equally enjoyable
2. 'wrap up' a session on your main and spend some 'relief' time on your alt afterwards.

I'm sure others can think of more methods, but you get the picture. The key is isolating each character's actions from the events that you as a player learn from sources while not playing that character (both IC & OOC).

I like Alshain's post. I do wish to clarify my 'lag time' suggestion and give it fuller meaning.

The reason I suggest 'lag time', and may or may not be on it right now, is the wholist info garnered by one char becomes stale during 'lag time'. If you see someone you need to RP with but you're on the wrong char and you logoff and go into 15 min of lag before logging on the right char, there's the chance the person with whom you needed to RP has logged off in the interim. Half the wholist may have changed in that 15 minutes, so the info is stale and not wholly trustworthy.

Also, if you see them logon (top of list when not there before) and then you go into 'lag time', there's that chance that char got into RP or a ToM group or something in the interim, precluding your desired RP.

So I use 'lag time' as an info-corrupter, so to speak, and to allow a cooling-off period.

Alshain?

I'm actually playing the entire CoN right now, except for Peso.

If you're asking for an exact length of time after which you're not going to be deleted for multiplay for swapping characters, you're not going to get an exact answer. As I said earlier: you're flirting with deletion by hopping between characters.

If you don't have alts you're obviously not going to have any problem at all with this. If you only play one character during any given 'session' at the keyboard, you'd probably be fine as well. Anything else is going to be a gray area - a player vs immortal debate as to why you changed from one character to the other. If you start adding player complaints or even PK into the mix, you can see why we'd be unlikely to give the benefit of the doubt.

As others have said before, a good interval is one that involves a considerable time - so take a break and do some other activity for a while. Apparently there's this thing called outdoors somewhere, too. :P

I've been deleted for logging back on after I had just logged off when the city my character lived in was being attacked. They do not mess around with this stuff don't take any chances!

The only times that I have ever done it is when I have been waiting for a specific person and it seems it has been forever. When I say specific person it is for getting in a religion necessary for the advancement of the char. It should be a case-by-case basis.

This statement is completely false! Deciding to log in is an OOC decision. You are sharing information only with yourself! It has NOTHING to do with what your character knows.

As soon as you log in with the new character, that character has no idea who is "logged on" but by entering the WHO command, that character is then given a list of all characters he can sense in the realms.

The only way you would be "sharing information across characers" is if when the second character sees the who list, the intended target does not show up (because of lack of detects or whatever).
