I think I found a bug. I was wandering about Everclear and, when I entered the docks area, the gates where open and allowed me to pass. But as soon as I did they shut themselves and I wasn't able to leave, as they were locked.. :(

I'm loving the MUD, but I think the rate at which movement points are used is near-ridiculous -- even at walking rates. I know it depends on terrain and all, but there is SERIOUSLY nothing more unfun than waiting 5-8 minutes for them to recover only to have to do it all over again 10 minutes later. Is there anyway to speed this process up?

Thoughts:
1) food and drink - don't go anywhere without them. If all you have is a basic/newbie drink container, get more than one of them or find/ask for better.
2) work on your constitution via train stats or items
3) steed - mounting and riding helps significantly - though if you recall normally you will lose it, so take care.
4) flight - (be wary of wind) - some classes cast it, some items activate it (herbs, staves, wands, pill-sorts). Ask someone if you're unsure.
5) refresh - handy spell that gives back movement . Again, some classes cast it, etc.
6) travel with someone - who has flight, refresh, or is a centaur/griffon sort who will roleplay/allow you to mount them.

I got something for you in addition to Amadeo's suggestions, which are all good. There's some easily found items in the game that grant refresh at the tick. While slightly helpful even at GM, these items are very helpful as a low-level character. Ask around IC and I'm sure someone will enlighten you.

Yeah that was included under the "etc." of point 5. But fleshing it out a bit I suppose isn't bad. As Edoras said, ask around IC & you'll prolly get some help all around.

Best wishes, and welcome to SK.

Follow my newbie guide and this will not be an issue for you.
