You -do- realize that art makes absolutely no difference unless the target is wearing reflex, right? That is to say, against a naked target, 0art is as good as 14art. Do you also know that very few NPCs are decked out in reflex gear?

I really don't think we know enough about saving throws to agree or disagree with you, Baldric.

You do realize that you're wrong right? Art changes the curve of the probability of your "dice roll" and it does make a difference. Adding art will reduce/eliminate the number of reduction saving throws on a naked NPC. If you don't notice this, it's not my problem.

Code:
[Training help] Art

Syntax: train stat art

Also known as spellpower, training art improves your magical technique,
[b]making it more difficult for enemies to save versus your spells[/b] that you
cast or from spells by your magical devices. It does not actually make the
spells higher level, so the amount of damage and time they last is not
affected.  The number of times you can train art depends on your class.

I don't give my information from supposition and never have. It's all purely from observable fact. Like I said, you can feel free to prove me wrong with some solid evidence.

I pity the newbs who seek answers in this forum.

Ugh.

I had to take off my apron for this.

You were doing so well, Dayamin. Why did you have to do this?

1: too many quotes make you look frothing instead of clever
2: the curve dice bit really depends on how randomness is calculated in the game. If your saving throw is a 2d6 or a 1d20 base, the meaning of art changes entirely.

Baldric is saying that most things don't stand a chance even without added spellpower.

You said nothing stood a chance when you had spellpower.

You two are in fact illustrating points along the continuum of options that an individual player will have to decide her place upon for her character.

PVP isn't the full centric focus of the MUD and there's not a single non-newb player that's going to run around holding wands in both hands zapping all the time in PVP. Staves and scrolls tend to be a bit more popular.

You -do- realize that you are just repeating what I said, right?

Ever notice how you come across somebody once in a while that you shouldn't have fecked with?

. . .

That's me.

I'll get back to you in a couple weeks, then. Good day, pusscake.

The quoting was for rhetoric purposes. I also know that it's popular around here for some vets to give misinformation to newbs so they have an advantage. Tell a "newb" to stop at 9 art and you can pump the heck out of your fort/will/reflex saves and laugh as they never beat you. My big point was to essentially reinforcing your continuum point and to illustrate that, no matter what level of random you're looking at, anything that can bend that in your favor to max potential is better than nothing or the minimum at all. You're right that it's really up to the player to discover on their own and they may or may not see differences in advice. I just try to offer the best information I have without people trying to point out fingers at what is or isn't newb. Such an act seems more frothing to me than solid rhetoric, but I guess people are constantly on edge with people who do spam post frothing. Name calling is never constructive or acceptable in a situation and counter-productive to new player development.

NO! It's a conspiracy! Vets don't really do this!
