That one point makes it so that they cannot sleep with a charm, which is huge and makes it very difficult for them to play. And while your mental stat maxes (int cha and wis) do increase with age, they don't actually go up until your second age tick, which is a long time and a small window at that.

Didn't know it was that big of a difference. Thank you for the info Edoras.

Another useful tidbit of information - stats don't work linearly. It seems that after 20, an increase in stats is much more than before 20. As in, there is a much more noticeable difference between 21 and 22 int than there is between 19 and 20 int.

For quantifying purposes, you can look at your general purpose ooc info collection for strength at each str stat number and see that the last 5 go up by 50 instead of 12.5 for the early values and 25 for the mid or something like that. Same thing goes for all stats.

Yeah it's not like I have played a few griffon sorcs and can speak from firsthand experience on how bad they are. I must just be a perma newb.

Your appeal to authority is meaningless to me.

Well hopefully it isn't to the newbs you're trying to screw over with your terrible understanding of mechanics and game balance.

The idea that you can join the fist with your griffon sorc and suddenly be able to claw your way through high-end NPCs is ludicrous.

You don't need to join any faction to be able to hold your own against a lot of NPCs with a griffon sorc with no charm. Obviously I'm not talking about going one on one against boss NPCs this way, but perhaps you are unaware of just how effective griffon toughness really is, or how combat-capable a non-factioned griffon sorcerer with appropriate buffs is, especially now that sorcerers do not get fatigued from GS and haste. The point is they don't even need a charmie to explore most places, yet all of the arguments against griffons seem to be based on the fundamental assumption that a sorcerer needs a charmie 100% of the time. Griffons don't. In the event they do, they can get one just like any other sorcerer. And if, for some reason, they require a high INT for something, they can get that too. And, just to add to this, consider that a griffon polymorphed into a sprite is better than a sprite, yet a sprite polymorphed into a griffon is worse than a griffon.

Your attack on motives is equally meaningless to me. You cannot or will not make a logical argument based on the ideas, and seem to resort to logical fallacy after logical fallacy to address me. You just claim to know what you're talking about and are concerned about why I am saying what I am, neither of which advances this discussion. I request that you either put up or shut up.

I've got an idea! I, being newbie, will roll a griffin sorc. If I'm happy and famous in six months, we'll call it a success. If I stop posting on the forums and nobody knows my character (or my character is long gone), we'll know it was a bad idea. ;)

Just so you know, the only thing any pure explorer sorcerers have ever been famous for in the history of SK is hoarding, and that's not really a worthy goal. All the rest eventually fade from the collective SK memory. If you want a character to be famous and memorable in a good light you have to go the RPK route. In which case griffon is not great. They're only good for pure explorer or for pure RP. For a well-balanced sorcerer that excels in all areas, griffon is a difficult choice.
