I remember reading something about this in the help file, but it wasn't very specific. Is it at all possible, after your crimes have been reported, to just wait it out in another kingdom until they clear?

in short, no.

Once your crime has been reported it will remain in system memory forever or until you serve the time for it.

Or until you can obtain a pardon, which recently has been easier and easier to do.

To add some unsolicited information. Seeking a pardon can open up some avenues of RP as you attempt to find who exactly you need talk to about it, and can get you in contact with the who's who of a country.

Of course, if your outlaw list is extensive, that may not be a good thing, but it could still be fun.

I think crimes should be cleared after a respected amount of time.

Straight up murder should not have a statute of limitations.

Baldwama is right; IRL murder does not have a statute of limitations. Now even if you wanted to argue there should be a SoL for the other crimes or all for what ever reason, you still can't equate RL SoLs with the mud. The main reason why it wouldn't translate is due to age. The average age of a male is 72 years I believe. But adulthood doesn't start until 18, leaving 54 years on average. This means any SoL of 10 years is about 1/5 of his adult life (note SoLs vary per crime) but because in SK there are different races with different life spans a set SoL would be a greater burden on griffons then it would be for elves. Now if you were to suggest a life span percent, not only is the concept inherently flawed but then elves would feel a much greater burden then any other race.

There is another reason that is based on why SoL exist IRL but would not apply to a fictional character. Granted on can argue that to the character's RP it would be just as relevant but realistically the character is controlled by an outside force, namely the player, that is unaffected outside what happens to the controlled character. I could go much more in-depth on this point but it really is pointless and only philosophical. More over, I don't see SoL ever being added because of the significant authority reduction tribunals would suffer.

You also can't get pardons IRL without extraordinary circumstances.
