I have always wondered that when you’re in the wilderness that sometimes you see only a few letters and other times you see a whole bunch of letters

Example

yyy
y*y
yyy

VS
ffffffff
fff*fff
ffffffff
I know that night and day come into effect but if your flying and have infravision shouldn't you be able to see farther then someone who just has infravision ?

Try to think of the fly spell more as a levitate spell and it'll all come together for you.

I guess but I what I ment by flying was a flying race not the float spell. So griffons and spriets and all the other races you can turn into that fly (and can see in the the dark).

For game purposes, all flyers are treated as barely hovering over the ground. That's so monsters (and players) on the ground can attack you. So no, you don't get an improvement in your sight range.

You're welcome to emote whatever swoops and soars you want, of course.

It's more related to amount of light / time of day / etc.
