'Kay, here's the situation:

Group formed as follows:
Someone Whoever Nobody
Rezzor Healor Sorceror
Muddor Warlock Thief

K, now let's say Warlock and Thief get into an argument and decide to duke it out without leaving the group formation - can they without using a spell to initiate combat because they're right next to each other or would the code still consider them 'behind someone'?

And now same scenario, but what if Thief decides to backstab Sorceror? He's technically behind him already... :-?

Just asking out of curiosity, really.

Swashie
Giant with spear
Sorc

Ok, swashie and giant get into an argument..Swashie taunts the giant, and the swashie proceeds to get their butt beat, because the mud sees the giant as being behind someone, so the giant hits the swashie and the swashie doesn't hit back..

Ok, and I know this from experience, this happened in the ToM a week or so ago, and since I wasn't hitting him, I fled, and went into three Arot'xotyl things..

The warlock cannot attack the thief because he is "behind" somebody. The thief can backstab the warlock.

What happens with the rest of the people in the group in that situation? Whom do they assist?

So far as a i can guess... the "first" player to "act" (through mud only, not player actions) attempt to attack the person who started the combat, which will probably be impossible. If they have reaching weapon they'll attack guy in front of them, if not they'll attack the first person guy in front of the intiator. If they are that guy they won't act. However, once the second guy acts, he could be considered the aggressor, so the whole group might not be attacking the guy closest to the original intiator.

Suffice to say that once your group attacks itself you are [REDACTED].

This merits investigation. Perhaps some lowbies whose things are easily replaced.
