Post subject: | Joining a Cabal |
I have been playing for a while now. I have a character that is about the Apprentice level and she'd like to join the Hammer but the people that she's supposed to talk with (or that I think she's supposed to talk with) seem to never be in the realms when I am. How do I find them? Grenda |

Admittedly, this can be a problem. What you need to do depends on where you are in the process. The big question is, have you told a confirmed Hammer member that you want to join? If not, you have to make the connection. People in related player groups, like the Peacekeepers tribunal or the church of Alshain should be able to help direct you to members. Ideally, then, you form an IC relationship with these Hammer members, to build some trust. Only then do you bring up the question of membership. But once you have asked for membership, the cabal is obligated to make a decision in two real-life weeks. The cabal will almost certainly want you to be interviewed by a leader, and possibly others. Do offer your forum name in an OOC tell, so you all can make OOC arrangements to meet if need be. If you really can't get anywhere, because no one from this cabal plays when you do - maybe you should reconsider. Player groups aren't much fun without the group. |

Forsooth is right, but remember that renfair is going on this month so you might have trouble finding hammer members. Burton leads the Hammer I think and he posted he wouldn't be around until after the 15th or somthing. Don't worry to much about not getting in, the people in the hammer are probably inactive for the faire. Try again when it's over. Please seek out other members in either the Hammer or Dulrik's faith to answer what questions you may have. |

*cough* Taken care of via PMs. Anyone who does happen to have scheduling problems, feel free to contact me by PM. I also agree with Forsooth about finding out IC. |

Thank you for the information. In the help files the cabals sound like a great idea but it isn't so obvious how to go about joining one. Or maybe I'm slow, which seems to be the case more often than not. I didn't realize the ren fair was going on. Anyway, my particular problem has been solved and hopefully anybody else with the same question has a better idea of how it all works. |

oh ya Cabals are fun. I've only been in one but all i know is i had a fun time and what not you make alot of friends oocly and what not and the cabal useally becomes like a family for you. But most cabals useally won't accept you until your a mentor or higher cause of all the pking and what not. |

Determining whether a character is suitable or not based on level is illegal, and a leader of a cabal can't turn a seeker down solely because he or she doesn't meet the "level requirement" for PK. The most basic cabal spell/skill (except for ciphers) begins at journeyman for a reason. |

Journyman is the earliest i'll induct a character so they have time to rp a bit and come up with a concept for the character. I don't like inducting someone who just made the character and has been online maybe 5 hours. If, after some RP, I find them ready to join a cabal I will induct them even if they are still j-man. Identities are easy enough to hide until they want to/are able be known to the public. |

I think that the rules say, level is no basis upon which you can deny someone. If they are able to keep up with the roleplay requirement I see no reason to deny them membership. I can think of numerous reasons a group might want younger members around. Achernar |

FYI, its not a good idea to tell the cabal leader of the cabal your trying to join, how to run his cabal through OOC tells. It will make me, and i'm sure the rest of the cabal leaders, give an instant no like I did last night. |
