Post subject: | A question on Power Leveling |
I'm wondering what exactly comprises power-leveling, and where is it mentioned in the rules? The reason I ask is that a fellow SKer spoke about it and I tried to find some information on it, but I couldn't for the life of me via help rules or help xp or any such. What -is- powerleveling? |

Uber-fast leveling, which usually encompasses not RPing, perhaps abusing bugs, and perhaps using OOC hook-ups to get phat lewt to make leveling easier (in the illegal case). Colloquial (not illegal) use might include leveling a hellion to master before seeking a religion. |

No, that's stupid. Power leveling would involve getting your friend (or a complete stranger if you want to do it legit) to invest you into his religion at amateur so you wouldn't have problems casting spells in two days when you hit master. |

I was under the impression Power Leveling involved a high level character tanking high level NPCs while a newbie hit away to gain XP? |

Power levelling is levelling as fast as you can, using whatever techniques get you levelled the fastest. It can have negative connotations because it can mean sacrificing RP or, for some, cheating, but it certainly doesn't have to involve anything sordid or illegal. Many folks are rather fixated on obtaining a certain level before they bother getting involved in RP or PK, which is a perfectly sensible approach for some. Peace, Bux |

That's called 'leeching' sometimes, and 'a high level character helping you out' other times. |

You can do that, and to some degree it will work. But XP is based on damage done. If you can't do enough damage, then you can hit at 50 GM NPCs all day, and you won't level at all. To answer the original question: Power leveling is simply leveling as fast as you can. In my opinion, it isn't legal. This is because because it often requires you to engage in various things such as getting armor much higher then your status, getting "hook-ups" - usually by OOC methods, and the like. It would be wrong, however, for me to not mention that some people power-level without cheating. Simply by knowing the game, these people take what they know and level quickly. While it violates the spirit of the MUD, I, personally, do not look down on the later form of power-leveling. Due to the way the game currently is, it is often required that you reach a certain position before you will even be considered for any serious RP. This position isn't necessarily GM, but it is never novice, and rarely even Mentor. sleeper |
