Well, this is more for clarification than anything.

I know that Griffons require special weapons and armor. I know there are a few shops in Nerina that offer said armor, and probably a bunch of other shops across the world.

My question is, do you have to use only the armor and weapons provided at these griffon specific shops? Can a tailor or blacksmith customize them to be griffon-friendly? Or can griffons pretty much just wear anything large?

The only kind of armor a griffon can wear is around waist armor (belts/harnesses). The only kinds of weapons it can wield are talon-grip ones. Regarding treasures, it can wear anything at neck slots, around body, no fingers for rings. There is no way to customize a piece of equipment to be proper for griffons (which would only mean weapons/shields of course, that are the only kind of things needed to be griffon-custom for a griffon to wear them). There have been put quite a few pieces of such weapons/shields in game, you need to ask IC to get directions to them. Other than that, you can wear ANY large sized eq on your waist, around body, neck-slots.

Oh, and of course treasures around "wrists" I forgot to mention them. You can wear these, too.

From a post a while back, source forgotten (my apologies):
Someone very helpful wrote:
EQ List

Humanoid:
finger, finger, neck, neck, body, head, legs, feet, hands, arms, about, waist, wrist, wrist, held, held

Centaur:
finger, finger, neck, neck, body, head, front hoof, back hoof, hands, arms, about, waist, wrist, wrist, held, held

Griffon:
neck, neck, about, waist, wrist, wrist, held, held
I've petitioned a few times for the eq command to show empty slots, but this will stave me off in the meanwhile.

Keep in mind that while the weapons sold in Nerina are all stated as "talon-grip" weapons in their short descriptions, there are many other griffon weapons in the game that are not explicitly stated as "talon-grip". The threshing claw is one example that immediately comes to mind.

True, but note that any STOREBOUGHT weapons that a griffon can wield are going to be labelled "talon" or "griffon". Buying random weapons and trying them out is a complete waste of time and money.

I'd also add that about-body is an armor slot, though you'll have a difficult time finding such items that contribute any armor. (It's also the only slot where your class armor restrictions apply.)

Finally, a hint: Just because you can buy weapons doesn't mean they're better than your talons. Low level griffons in particular may find bare talons better, because they don't have skills that benefit from a weapon like parry or shield block. Experiment.
