My comrade in newbdom and I would like to contribute to the world, and we even have a tiny, miniscule area being born on the drawing board that we think/hope is needed, RPably sound, and would fill in a gap. I didn't put this on the "What I would like to see" board because we are quite willing to do all the work. In fact, we'd love to! But...here's where the queries come in.

As newbs making a suggestion, we feel quite presumptuous. What is the feeling here? Is it "Go play in the sandbox until you've learned some more, lass, and then you can talk to the grown-ups"? Because I'm presently playing my first real character, but I've been dancing around the edges of SK for about a year. So I have some knowledge, probably enough to get me in trouble and little more.

I've read the thread on the Pantheon board and the bit in the FAQ about imms and building, but as a newb I still don't know proper procedures and paths. I also don't know where to find who the current KDs are, or how to query. Or if an imm would be willing to act as a sounding board, or which to ask or how to go about asking.

Sorry, I know this is rather rambling and my questions vague. But I would appreciate greatly any wisdom or advice. :)

I dare to suggest that you type wizlist when in the game. This will show you the imms that are KD for each kingdom. You can then apporoach them either via PM or the e-mail that shows on the wizlist.

In general, only the Immortals build things. Of course, some mortals manage to push changes through (such as a faith building a temple) or otherwise help in writing the descriptions.

I'm not the one who gets to make the decisions about who/what goes into the game (duh!), but as a veteran of building projects let me offer a few criteria for your project:

- No more than three rooms big.
- No really good equipment.
- Nothing that glorifies a particular PC.
- Something that is the project of a long-term IC character that you play.

Even then, be prepared for a hassle trying to coordinate it with the immortals who have the proper access, questions of VNUMs, etc. Not everything works out.

Ahh, thanks for the prompt responses. I think I'd gathered a somewhat different impression from the things I read, although sometimes my mind is astoundingly optimistic. Or deluded. Take your pick.

Trust me, I wouldn't attempt anything that glorified my nobody character. We had worked it out as a possibility of an IC project (unearthing/discovering the place mostly, with whatever imm costs being explained away as work in excavation). No spiffy eq, mostly because we don't really know what spiffy eq is. I get thrilled when I see anything that adds moderate to mana.

I was rather confused by wizlist, and wasn't sure if it was up-to-date or not, given the shiftings I've seen on the forums. As I've been sent there, I will just assume it is.

Thanks for the wisdom!

If I were you i'd start saving money. A -lot- of money. Like, three digit obsidian numbers. Realistically, if you build a small area it'll probably be between 100-200 obsidian.

And it is the coolest thing ever to walk into a room with your exact description :D

<3 noobie and energetic IMMs!

Pssssst...who's the newb imm?

And how the devil does anyone manage to rack up that kind of coin? (Not expecting an answer...just...wow.)

Patience, time, buddies, or the willingness to really tweak the system.

As a n00b, don't act like you know it all. Outside of that, feel free to make suggestions, attempt to solve other peoples problems, etc...

...

And Death is a little busy right now. Don't overburden the dude thats not even home atm. (Or has just come back.) :P

1) Just because you're relatively new to the mud doesn't make you any less worthy. <3 the noobs.
2) The bigger and more complex the request, the less likely it is to see fruition.
3) Check the announcements forums on contacts (although it is a bit out of date) and the wizlist (which was updated yesterday) for a list of imms. You'll need to find one willing to do the work.
4) Newbie imms are usually more able/willing to help than jaded old imms. Achernar and Zavijah are fairly new, but I wouldn't promise that they'd help. I know my own plate is so full that I may never get everything done I've got going on now, let alone taking on any more.
5) Offers to do the work yourself are very helpful and go a long ways to making an imm willing to help out. Just be sure you run spellcheck. *Wert glares in the direction of people who sent him stuff for religious armor.*

Lastly, there is no guarantee an imm will build anything. No imm is under any obligation to build things under player request. Although it is really cool when they do.

When I built my two towers it was Dabi, who's unfortunately MIA. Zavijah and Achernar are the newest IMMs, but i think both of them have realized

I'm not the best at collecting cash, but i could tell you how to crank out 4-8 obsidian a day as any class with about 15 minutes of work (but you can't repeatedly do it in a short amount of time). Ask around ICly, i'm sure somebody can help you.
