Okay, during my whole stint as Mentor. The thieves did not take my gloves but after I make master they take them. Did I just get that lucky, while I was Mentor or did something else happen? |

Either lucky, or you enchanted the gloves some time once you became master and took them to higher level. |

According to the person that gave them to me they were already enchanted |

The chance of losing a high-level item is rather small, unless the level difference is huge. I remember keeping an Veteran-level item all the way from late Initiate to 1 level short of Veteran, before it got stolen. So you were "lucky" in a sense, but this kind of luck isn't at all unusual. |

This is how the offline 'thieves' work on SK. As long as you have anything more powerful than your character, that is, the item level is more than your character, there will be a check/chance for the item to be 'stolen' during logon. The check goes through all your items so don't be surprised if you lose more than one at a time. The closer the level difference is, the lesser chance % it is. Conversely, the further it is, the greater chance. For example, if your character is Mentor, that is level 36, and you have an item that is superior quality, you will 'likely' keep it, because superior quality goes from 36 to 40. If you are a level 41 master you will definitely keep superior quality items but the thieves will come visit if you have anything that's outstanding (41-45) and/or near god-like (46-50) quality. In theory, and by luck, it is possible that a Mentor character can a keep GM item for any number of logons, but is just as likely to lose it on the next logon. From experience, however, the chance % for an item stolen within 10 levels is quite small, so as long as a character doesn't spam logon he will keep items. I hope this answers your question. In the old days this type of number crunching analysis gets removed, but now... I dunno. (Sorry I took a while to type and proof read this post and just saw Forsooth's post in peview, he has already covered the answer.) |

Your level numbers are a little off according to my identify research Minette. near god-like quality doesn't even happen until Grand Master status for one thing (identifying my own corpses). Maybe someone that has a whole lot of time can make an entire list but this is what I've deduced thus far. Code: (1-10) Amateur to Novice poor
(11-20) Initiate to Apprentice average (21-30) Journeyman to Veteran above average (31-40) Expert to Mentor superior (41-49) Master to Champion outstanding (50) Grand Master near god-like Everything else Minette has said is correct though. |

And just for the record - Bypassing the thieving code by dumping your gear somewhere every logout is frowned upon. Do not complain if you are punished for doing so. The code is there for a reason. |

See, in the good old days there were crashes and reboots to counteract this... |

What about the good old time out bug that lets you keep your EQ. They are the -log-out- thieves, not the log in thieves. |
