Well... numerous times, here recently, my partner(s) in training has become confused in battle, and turned to slay me. Is there any sort of advice to either prevent or counter this? I feel like I'm walking around with a powder keg, just waiting for it to blast me away with the drop of a spell.

Coughts and Thoments?

Don't start your adj with NE, NW (how could you?), SE or SW such as neat, serious, sweet.

Don't start your name with those either.

If your char is similar to the targets, remind your companions to aim correctly in an IC way.

Code:
Antherum tells the group 'remember to strike at the antelopes and not me.'

You tell the group 'hit the warriors and not my warhorse.'

I think he's talking about the priests that use confusion, like monks in the Haven or in Morea.

Either bash/trip all the time, dirt kick or blind them, or find another levelling area.

get a pet or a meat shield with bash. That is the only way short of making them not be able to cast spells.

If you are aware that NPCs cast confusion, enter mode stun.
That way you may pulvarize you friend, but at least you don't
kill them. :-?

if his friend is confused he was the one the monk was targetting, so his friend is the tank, so likely his friend would pulverize him.

Ive got five basic tips but when I read them over I worked out they where all pretty much IC info. Talk to someone who is a little bit worldly wise in game.
I will say confusion is a powerful spell but it is just that only a spell there are ways to deal with spell casters and ways to deal with harmful magics.
Confusion also does not block every command just a lot of them.

Heh, supporting the alias theory, mine is 'blue-eyed' and I always seem to get hit when we fight anything that is 'blue-black' for example. Luckily Groof can luagh these things off
