Paper (note item) and pen is the best way to record your journal IC. If you are worried about losing it (due to death) you can post it to yourself on the boards. If you want it eventually turned into a book as per book item then you need to talk to an Imm about it. Last I looked there where no Book like notes to work with. Also keep in mind when a note is written and the editor closed it can not be changed.

There is at least one journal in game, with I believe 16 pages. It is limited to one string per page, sadly - if there's a way to insert paragraphs and the like, I haven't reckoned it. But if you're not long-winded, it's more fun than a loose sheaf of parchment.

You can probably add "paragraphs" with the $* (hard-return) tag, but if you can only enter one string then you'd still have a limited number of characters per page.
