Post subject:  Any advice?

Alright, this is my first MUD I've ever done. Being from EQ a few years ago, I'm getting the jist of it fairly quickly in my opinion, but alot of it still confuses me.

Now, moving to the point, some advice would be most appreciative.

Currently I made a Deep-Elf Hellion. I figured I'd try an evil class seeing as I'm able to roleplay them better than a light class. [shrug]

So, I need a bit of advice on weapons, spells, etcetera. Anything you guys can think of about to help me out a bit would be greatly appreciated. I read the class description and it seems to remind me of a Shadow Knight from EQ, one that poisons / plagues minus the pet of course. Stat ditribution advice (str, int, etc) would also be helpful. Would I need more strength? Being an elf I figured I'd have a goo dintelligence for casting magic.

Thanks for the help , I appreciate it.

find yerself a Hellion with Knight in their title (become their Squire) to aid you IC - the best help you can get is from one of them...

... oh and welcome to the MUD

For your first char, I actually would have recommended a swashbuckler or a barbarian first. With barbarians, you have relatively few commands, and you attract friends pretty quickly, if you haven't totally screwed up your stats.

Swashbucklers, though. You have what, three offensive active skills? Easy as crap. My advice to you is to find one of the bigger knights in the game, like Slayne or Senach, and learn all of it IC. Not that I've got any reason to keep it from you (if I knew it) but I think it's always more fun IC.

(After a year of SK, I still suck)

Deep-elf is probably a bad idea to start with, hated by all, and way too many weaknesses, especially to Light. As for leveling, you need to pick one of the Hellion faiths, tell the High Follower that you are seeking it (their titles are generally things like "Focus of the Eye" or "Eye of Sargas") or something of that sort.

For leveling, just spam Cause Light. Killing Light Aura NPCs gives an XP bonus to your leveling speeding it up. Once you can learn Hellfire, use that till Grand Master or whatever you want to stop at. For weapons...use a cleaving weapon (after you get cleave), preferably two handed for leveling, and make sure to attack only unarmed NPCs.

I see, how exactly would I go about finding another hellion?

And what effect do faiths have? And actually I prefer learning a complicated character over an easy one. Thanks again for the advice.

Faiths are what grant you the ability to cast all your spells after initiate or something. They don't really affect anything else besides your RP. Use help gods to see your choices, and RP with whatever spheres your god has. The gods that have H to the right of their descriptions are the ones that you can pick (H means Hellion faith, P means Paladin, Ain is both H and P)

Short of it your choices are,

Sargas the Smiter. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .(War, Conquest) H
Algorab, God of Fear . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (Fear, Tyranny, Vengeance) H
Ain the Eye. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .(Justice, Order, Logic) HP

I see, looks like Algorab it is. So I take it that I take the faith up at the respective temple? I've found several templs around Krychire while exploring.

Currently however I'm only at Novice rank. I just hit it and figured I'd ask some advice before I continue. I don't want to get too far just to learn I messed up my stats etc.

So how can I become a squire to a knight? I use the who command and find the Hellion with Knight in their titlet hen simply talk to them?

You join the faith by speaking with the respective High Priest or High Knight, you can't just go to a temple and ask to join unless there is no active high follower. If/when you see one, send them a tell saying you seek such and such, they'll tell you to meet them somewhere, you'll chat for a while and probably get accepted.

Alright, thank you guys for all the advice.

One more question though.

Stat distributions for D-elf, any suggestions as to what primary focus should be etc?

Delfs have the highest INT of any race, but its really not worth maxing on a hellion. I'd do starting Brilliant INT, starting Wise WIS, max CHA, max STR, max CON, 16 or so carrying capacity (DEX) and uhh I doubt you'll have anything left over. Start with STR.
