I am not exaggerating in any way...

I have spent 2 hours trying to use the brandish skill... I have improved about 8 times, putting me half way between superb and master. I have used about somewhere in the region of 75 staves... and not once have I invoked one with success.

What am I doing wrong?

I simply hold the stave and type 'brandish' right?

Certain staves have level requirements to use successfully.

I used to have the same trouble on those mahogany staves from Sith'a'niel.

Minette probably has the correct answer. You have to be the level of the spell you're brandishing in order for it to actually use the spell when you brandish. Just level up some and you'll have no trouble.

These are just the ones in the outpost. Create Water / Food.

The answer is still the same though, an apprentice char will never be able to invoke those staves. Gather a few more levels and try again.

That's a total area flaw. You have NPCs that are meant to be killed by apprentices, in an apprentice ranked area - but the items said NPCs drop CAN'T be used by apprentices. That totally needs looking into.

I was thinking the same thing, that it made no sense at all... also, you said I needed to be at the required level... create water is an initiate level I think and I am above that.

Also, a tip to easily master staves. 30 or so low level NPCs + a handful of sleep staves = an attempt to improve for every NPC per brandish.

But yes, you have to be the level or higher of the stave to use it.

If you can locate it, you can brandish/zap/recite it with ease.

If you don't have locate yet... just go plevel more and stop wasting time with magical devices.

If you don't get locate, you don't get identify either. So :P
