Hello, I have a question about Mentoring. I was wondering if the amount of mentoring you need to do to earn a stat point is different from race to race.

It seems to me that my half-elf is having to do an excessive amount of mentoring to gain a stat point. I've had the character quite some time now and done quite a lot of mentoring and yet i have not yet gotten a point. I was wondering if I were say, griffon who only lives a year irl, instead lf a helf that will live two and a half years or so if I would get points faster.

What's up? Also does the amount needed to gain a point change from class to class?

I've gotten different responses for this. I've gotten a mentor point once and I seem to do a very equal amount of mentoring every month. I've heard some people who get a mentor point almost every month and some people who have never gotten one. I wonder if it has something to do with the amount of times someone uses the train command on you. So if you're teaching people with higher int (has to train somethng less to learn it well) you get less trains points? Just thinking out loud.

I don't think it changes from class to class, but here are some things it MIGHT be based on:

Exp spent by people who were mentored
Portion of exp earned by mentoring


I also think the value needed for successive mentor points increases, but I could be just thinking about D's experimental first month, in comparison to the months following.

As a mentor, you should do the following things for newbies:
- Make the character feel welcome.
- Answer general questions about SK's world and rules.
- Encourage the character to set up their adjective and description.
- Show them to places that are helpful such as stores and levelling areas.
- Show them to trainers for vital skills or teach them yourself.
- Roleplay with them and introduce them to other opportunities for RP.

Would it be possible to have a flag visible to mentors over REAL newbies? You know, a little (new) over someone who typed "yes" to "are you new to Shattered Kingdoms"? It might help a little bit.

There already is. People who answered yes have "New to Pyrathia" as their title. People who answered no have a blank title. It's unlikely that a true newbie will (or know how to) change their title first thing.

However, mentor points are not affected by the answer to that question. If it was, that would make the veterans want to answer yes and then the question would be of no use at all.

And if they typed that they are new, and actually a veteran... it's more practice for the mentor!! Heh. I noticed I have done that, just to get through the creation process, but I chang my title when I notice it.

This goes without saying ofcourse. And when I do meet real newbies I do help them in every way I can. The thing is most people I mentor aren't newbies but rather older players who want cheap spells easy to find at high levels of proficiency. I can train almost every thing they need up to vg for for free. Why look anywhere else?

Ofcourse I have come across real noobs. Not all of them are sorcs either. I still help them. I'm not mentoring just for stat points.

What are the benefits to it? I didn't notice you get stat points, just mentor points. I shall read up on them help files again.
