My Halfling Bard was trying to sneak ealier today to walk into the next room of the nernia inn to see how well a barbarians alertness was. he was recovering from the River (not wearing anything)... and just got over spirit disorientation. He's a level 3 Apprentice, and only has Limber Dexterity in this state. IT TOOK HIM 43 ATTEMPTS BEFORE HE WAS SNEAKING. That's 44 PE points. He's an Innate Master at sneak... it's in his blood. I'd understand if he was clumsy... but wth? |

How did you know whether your character was sneaking or not? If you assumed your sneak roll failed because you saw this message: Code: > sneak You attempt to move silently. You no longer feel stealthy. You should know that all this means is that you made a skill check while your character was already stealthy. The second line has no bearing on whether or not your character is still sneaking. It's just the message that your old sneak affect was canceled by the new skill check you just did. On the other hand, if you saw: Code: > sneak
You attempt to move silently. Then you made a skill check while your character wasn't already stealthy. Either way, you'll never know whether you're actually sneaking or not unless you ask someone else to confirm it. (Although with innate skill it's generally safe to assume that you succeeded.) |

If you type sneak with innate sneak...your sneaking. You are relying on the barbarian to tell you if your sneaking correct? I can tell you right now your both confused. As the post above said there is a cancellation message. There is only one way you'd have failed to sneak that many times... You were wearing MASSIVE AMOUNTS of heavy armor as a light armor or cloth wearing class. |

Uh, no. It's still possible to fail an innate sneak check (although the odds of that happening are very low). |

Code: Through alertness, a barbarian learns to be in-tune with his surroundings
at all times, such that he can sense when someone is passing near his presence, even if they never make a sound. Although dulled somewhat, a skilled barbarian can even sense people approach while he is sleeping. Even if you are sneaking a barbarian can detect you. |

Can, yes. Will he always? No. Alertness has checks just like any other skill, and like any other skill, it can be failed - and the barb won't notice a thing. I'm more interested to know how he arrived at the conclusion that it costs 1 point of PE per sneak attempt. |

Because it does cost that. Same with hide. |

Tip for working out if your sneaking or not. Sneak, hide then move, then do something to slip out of the shadows (anything that isnt move). If your still in the shadows then where sneaking. If you slip out of the shadows as you move then you are not sneaking. |
