I am new here, and I do roll a barbarian right now. Can someone tell me if at grandmaster toughness is like adamantite? If it isn't, why not? Can anyone tell me for 'sure'? |

I know for a fact that the toughness griffons get at GM is nowhere even close to adamantite. Beyond that, I can't help you. |

I can help with the "Why not?" aspect. Dulrik has said that it's coded so barbarians who want to RP Conan-style dress aren't hopeless. Toughness is not to mimic the best armor in the game - in which case there'd be no point in getting it. Barbs are heavy armor classes, and with that advantage comes item dependence. Toughness is a nice bonus for non-barb griffons. Barbarian griffons are not a good choice for power at high levels. There's been some very memorable RP characters though.... |

Griffons should be buffed more so they do get best-adamantite quality fur/toughness at GM. They have an AMAZING lack of saves (fort, will, reflex,mp) already due to their restriction of not being able to wear six armor slots. Up their fur abit more at GM? |

Unless toughness for griffons got tweak its pretty awesome. Cyquoan did damn well, though with assistance of spells and a good griffon shield. |

Shields have been tweeked down since Cyquoan I believe. I cant remember why I think this but I believe toughness gives you only AC. Heavy armor gives you a damage reduction similar to Mp enchants. That is the major difference between a good (not very good) set of armor and Toughness. Any class that gets a skill from a race that the class doesnt normally get gives you a chance to be more powerful than expect. Often to make up for another major weakness in griffons case lack of enchants which hurts quite a lot. |

Just a reminder that newbie forum =! gameplay. Discuss what is, not what 'should be'. |

Toughness and armor both give AC, but whichever is higher is the one that is used, they don't stack or benefit each other at all. Griffon toughness does need to be added to, imo. At higher levels, the natural toughness of griffons is essentially worthless. It will deflect zakami and sheep hits, and that's about all. |

No one here seems to be sure of GM tougness but I feel it should be just shy of adamantite. I would like it if toughness was as good as the best non-adamantite armor. This would benefit the griffons and barbarians who do not wish to always hunt for armor and decide instead to play the traditional barbarian (warkilt and big weapon) style. Then again, I play a barbarian right now so that is certainly a factor. |
