Hi, I put my character to the task of 'mastering' some other languages. I have found a number of teachers of different languages, but I seem to hit a ceiling around good to very good. Are (NPC) teachers who can move me up to mastery out there but just harder to find, or are only player characters able to provide this level of teaching, or maybe after a certain level I can only move up through 'spontaneous' improvement? |

As far as I know, no NPC language teachers exist to teach to mastered. Also, even a PC instructor will not teach above high very good. At a certain point, you need to just practice to improve. |

Most mentors will be better than most in game teachers at languages. A good way to learn a tongue is speaking it or listening to it remember trainers speak their native tongue most of the time so that can help. |

Thanks, So it would be wise for me to invest in INT to improve my chance of spontaneous imrovement? And should I just get a stack of paper and write on it time and time again with the target language to improve my written skills? |

However, if INT is not really that important for your character's built, you can always try to find items that will raise it, so you don't invest training points to it without need to. |

Giel, write yourself a note in the desired language and find somewhere quite and spam read the note to yourself... mastery in no time. Personally, I just did a few improves on each language every now and then rather than bore myself senseless trying to master them all in one go. |

Well, seriously, thank you for the 'spam' method of boosting my written skills. Of course it isn't very IC, but it is impossible to make a MUD without these occasional 'loop holes' popping up. So they might as well be made public. In a way, it is no more 'spammy' than ad nausaum killing of training monsters! It might be a good idea eventually to have a series of "Dick and Jane" books floating around, of increasing difficulty, which characters would have to find and read-- and possibly answer some simple questions to prove the did read-- in order to improve. It might also be a good idea to demand the practice note be written at a level superior to the learner for this to work! I should at least be spam reading a fluently written note! But again, thanks for this 'insider' information. |
