With the exception of 'compare' and 'value', I really don't know how to evaluate items well. I'm told there are spells to help me in this, but I have no idea how to learn to cast them.

In general, can my sprite character learn any more spells than those inately given to her? I've never encountered any NPC trainer who offered to teach any spells to her.

If the spell 'Identify' is not on your spell list, you can never learn it and will have to rely on friends to help you check the enchantments on items. You can also try to examine an object, but beyond that there's nothing you can do.

Priests, sorcerors, necromancers, paladins, hellions and I think shaman now can all use the identify spell. Bards have the lore skill. All of these things can be used to get more information on the item.

If you are a class not listed above that has wands or scrolls as a skill, there are wands and scrolls in the game that can be used to identify items as well using the 'identify' spell.

How does lore compare to the identify spell when it comes to finding out info on items???

Lore is better. It give you waaaay more info (at least it's supposed to. a lot of items that should have lore desc don't yet.)

Identify gives more information on the stats of an item than lore. I believe Lore only tells what enchantments are on an item, not how much they are enchanted. Like it will tell you if an item is enchanted to increase intelligence but not if it's slightly, moderately, or greatly. I may be remembering that wrong though. Lore can give lots of history and stuff about an item though.

I have been told that lore also gives you the "initial" stats of an item. If the stats have been changed any, lore can be inaccurate. Of course, this is all just hearsay.

Lore = ID before any thing is done to it as loaded into the game.
Also has flavor stuff about items where they are from history. If you are GM with a good Cha you will also sometimes get any information about it being a scripted item such as key words to use it. How ever Lore is not as good as ID as soon as something has been touched by PCs because an enchanted item will give the same lore no matter what has changed. Always good to know Bards have scrolls and can use those to ID things.

You do not have to be a GM to lore scriped items and know how to activate them. Just mentor. Also lore can also be used on anything on the ground or in you inventory so it is better then ID that way.
