My knowledge of building characters is limited, but it looks like a good start to me. I've heard of successful gnome sorcerors, and the sorc is an excellent choice for a new player.

General advice for casters is concentrate largely on int and wis at first - int will help you concentrate on more spells at one time and will increase your odds of improving at skills/spells as you go; wis will give you more mana. Then have decent cha (both because charisma will make leveling easier and later on, for charming), and later on work on art, which is a caster's spellpower versus the power of his opponent's resistance - that is, his chance of a successful spell depending on how much enchantment against magic his opponent may have. (That one took me a long while to understand.)

Let it be known that you are a young mage, and likely you will find help - everyone wants a sorceror for a friend. For more in-game advice, if you haven't already, I would advise using the mentor command "help mentor" explains this well - and sending tells to those who describe themselves as magical, masters of the arcane, etc.

Good luck and have fun! Sounds like a good start.

Threnody has given wonderful advice. Simple way to go would be to max wis, int, art, get cha up to influential then put anything you have left into con. The mentor command is your dear friend. Also don't be afraid to contact people on the who list who may have sorc sounding titles and ask them for help. Even if they aren't a sorc, they may know one. A grand choice of race as well, gnomes are one of the best races for casters in the game.

Good luck and welcome to the game!

thanks alot, but why max out con last? wouldn't that give you a poor amount of health (not to say that you would tank with a caster)

That's just it, you shouldn't be taking hits as a caster. With a mage the easiest way to level is behind a pet, o all bash, c magic missile. I'm not sure if you'll be able to max art, wis, int and get your cha up to influential and have any points left.

Though if you would like to put some points into con, it's not a bad idea. The great thing about SK is that there is no one quintessential build for any class. If you wish to be a little more durable (gnomes don't have great constitution to begin with) go for it! You could opt to not max out art (many don't) and be a little more hardy. :P

Do keep in mind though that there are a lot of equipment in the game that will mod your attribute points. Ask someone in game where to aquire constitution modifiers and I'm sure they'll help you out.

Read all the news posts in game off the top of my head the one you are looking for is news read 5 the final paragraph is about wisdom, constitution and their effects on ME/HP.

How ever you should read them all there are some important things in them like rules on fair conduct. It also gives you some idea about how the game has changed over the years. The Forums announcement page also has some additional code changes information.

If you are having a lot of trouble with low levels try to find some items enchanted with bonuses for physical things like str and dex. At very low levels there is little difference between a sorceror and a warrior who only uses a dagger aside from the stats you got in the creation hall. Mentors might be useful for helping you in this.

All of the above are excellent pieces of advice. I just want to add this...

As a sorceror I would go to max Int-Wis first, a bit of Cha if I wanted to speed up my leveling, or request items if I were light aura, and then full art.

I would find items in game, that give you +2 to CON, STR or + HP to compensate for the lower stats. Keep in mind that these modifiers apply normally, while a CHA modifier does not apply to your XP gain. On XP bonus I think that only the base score of your stat without the enchanted items counts.

So, INT-WIS-Bit of CHA- FULL ART. Then compensate with magical items that give bonus to attributes ;)

Welcome to SK.

My advice for leveling would be to max Wis ASAP, and try to get CON mods. Then get your cha as high as you want it (influentail in this case) then max INT. Dump some in art then finish off with con.

As a Sorc you will be able to explore the game very well and will be a great friend to have around. Sorcs are probably the second best friend any player may want next to priest.

Ignore the post above you by meztiso, specifically the part where he says to max int last.

Max Int first. You've almost gotten it done anyway if you haven't already with genius Int. As a sorc you'll be wanting to hold as many spells as possible and this is completely dependant on Int.

Then max wisdom, then art.

If you have anything left over put it in Con.

He did offer good advice on finding Con mods to start with. I'd follow that route as well as some str mods.

Charisma pretty much is something that you -can- do with out as a sorc. You just may choose not to, that is up to you. It's helpful for leveling faster; however, at sociable you should level just fine. It is also helpful for reducing order lag which will be handy once you start using charms. But you can always get a charisma mod for this if you don't want to spend the points on it.
