Hello, its been a long time since i last played this game, and i just started to get back into it. This time around I decided to try something new and go with a physically week caster, a sprite sorceror. However, as I am playing this combination, it seems rather weak. I'm don't know if its just because I'm still only level 2 or what, but I was wonder if I could get some advice as how to advance my character. Here are his stats:

STR: Weak INT: Brilliant WIS: Clever
DEX: Nimble CON: Healthy CHA: Sociable

Any help that can be offered is much appreciated.

Sprite sorc is actually a very good combo. I would bring your cha up to influential to make leveling a little easier on yourself and take care of order lag for when you start using charms. Then max your wisdom to give you a larger mana pool to level with. Then max int. Then do at least nine art.

After that its up to you. You can max out art try which will help your spells land a little more often. Or you can put some points into con to help you survive a little longer.

As far as leveling, alvaro is right. Get a pet, o all bash NPC, and magic missile away. Try to explore as many different areas as you can and level off of what you think are different aura NPCs than you. Ask IC for help. The mentor command is your friend. Also, if you're not getting a response to the mentor call, try to contact a sorcy looking person on the who list.

Good luck and welcome back!

Good advice so far.

Here's something that took me too long to figure out. Stand behind the pet. The info command will show you how you are positioned in relation to the pet. Then type, " pos self 21 " to put yourself in the back row. Info also shows you your pet's health... handy to know so you don't accidentally get it killed.

Maybe you already knew this... If so, ignore me.

Edit: typos

Thanks for all the help you've given me so far, I've got a few questions about dexterity.

1.) should I increase it to make me more impossible to hit?
2/) is it dexterity or strength that affects the damage of a sling?

Regarding dexterity, I would say it is personal preference.
I had a sprite sorceror who would duel GM swashies one-on-one and win with 95% to 100% HP left, using color spray, armor, mirror image, and a certain special skill. I am positive this was partly because of her 25 dexterity. I built her before art was in the game, so you could say I had extra stat points to use on dexterity, but I also sacrificed training my mana and charisma.
Some sorcs will go the other way, and their strategy is to stay out of combat at all costs, and there are advantages to that. However, as a sprite sorceror I personally chose to utilize my high dexterity potential to my advantage.
So basically, you can choose to be a stronger caster with higher sorc related stats like art, mana, and charisma, or you can choose to be a little bit quicker and get hit less often.
