I think this HAS to be posted for everyone to remember. I see people deleting or complaining lately because things happen and then those things get blown completely and totally out of proportion.

- It's a game. Most of the time, it isn't personal. If someone's trying to make it personal, don't LET it be. All the bad kinds of things that can happen to you in game are just part of the game and not worth any amount of crying, wasting your time or brooding over.

- Sometimes, people really ARE out to get you, and sometimes it isn't completely or entirely IC. You know what? It happens. People can be like that, and at some point it can pretty much bring any enjoyment -- or advancement -- in the game to a grinding halt. Get an immortal involved and explain what the situation is. Lately, I've been able to ask things and get answers pretty quickly. There's no reason why you shouldn't.

- There's people on the other side of your computer screen (actually, there's a bunch of electronics, and if you're using a CRT there's some nasty tubes you don't ever want to mess with -- you get what I mean). I'm not saying you should be a complete carebear, but please take the feelings of other players into account when you do stuff. Maybe killing that guy for the fourth time within the hour makes perfect sense IC, but I can't imagine the guy would feel really good about a fourth trip to the good ol' river.

- The person who is ultimately responsible over your character, and the ONLY person you have to answer to, is you. Well, yeah, if an IMM tells you that you're being dumb and is hitting you with the "you're stupid" stick, then maybe you need to pay attention and listen, but in most cases as long as you know how to roleplay and aren't running around going HEY GUYS I'M RUNNING 20 CLIENTS HERE IN ONE LINUX BOX ALL SCRIPTED LOL, you'll probably be fine.

In the end, the only person who can ruin YOUR character is YOU, and even then no character is outright ruined until you delete;delete. Your character isn't "done" just because you couldn't get into cabal X or you screwed up once and got blemished or even because you're a blithering idiot, flipped out, logged on and did some dumb crap you now regret. RP things out, make new connections, actually go through the stuff and hurdles people set in front of you. Especially you new players: all of this tends to serve as a learning experience. You can effectively RP your way through ANYTHING, given that you're willing to invest the time into it and are willing to work with other players, and even if your character can't get things to go exactly the way they want them to, you can still have a lot of fun trying. Okay, look, so maybe your lofty goal of making necromancy permissible in Taslamar isn't going to go anywhere, maybe you can't get Taslamar and the Empire to hold hands, kiss and make up, and maybe cleaning out the ENTIRE Wastelands by yourself armed with a toothpick and a loincloth is somewhat of a stretch -- but in many cases (hell, probably in all of them) it's the journey, not the destination, that tends to be the reward itself. Go and try new things. Be cool, get other players involved and most importantly...

HAVE SOME DAMNED FUN.

Seriously. The majority of us nowadays swear there is some ... something, I'm not sure what, that they think they have to maintain. A status quo? Reputation? I'm really not sure, but I think the majority of people forgot that it's possible to have fun with roleplay.

I THINK I'LL TRY THAT SLEEP I HEAR SO MUCH ABOUT, NOW

Good words for us all to remember now and then. It is very easy to get wrapped up in the game and then start swearing and cussing when it does not go our way.
