Does tame work on griffons....? Technically...they are non-humanoid...and animal like

That's a good point. I wouldn't know because I haven't gotten a scout that high. But if so...it should have like the same affects as charm but only animals or animal like creatures.

Tame worked on druids in animal form in WoW, in the beta, man that caused an uproar.

No, it doesn't. But look on the bright side: Griffon scouts can't tame humans. :)
