Hi all,

I'm trying to connect to the game, and my connection automatically disconnects upon making a connection to the game.

- I've tried connecting directly to the IP Address as well as the web address itself.
- I'm using the right port
- I've made sure the port isn't blocked by my anti-virus program
- No, I don't have any viruses on this computer.

I'm running Windows XP, SP 2.

Thanks kindly, all.

<edit> My IP address is....<removed>....have I been banned?! O.O

Hi Kurelum,

What IP address are you attempting to connect to? We just transferred servers a few days ago, so it's possible that your ISP doesn't have the correct DNS information yet. Are you trying these?

telnet mud.shatteredkingdoms.org 1996
telnet 74.208.75.187 1996

*nod* I'm connecting to those as listed. None of those seem to work, as I immediately get DC'd as soon as I make a successful connection.

If your site had been banned, you should be seeing this message:
Your site has been banned from this Mud.

Do you get the opening message at all? If you do and then it's disconnecting, it's likely that your client is sending some extra carriage returns when it is expecting your username/password.

If you don't get an opening message, it might be a firewall issue. Are you connecting from a school or work? Corporate firewalls will often not allow you to connect to high numbered ports like 1996.

A good way to see what is happening is to try connecting via the standard Windows' telnet program from a DOS prompt. That way you'll see the connection and the result.

Start button / Run / CMD.EXE

Then at the command prompt:
> telnet mud.shatteredkingdoms.org 1996

Refer to the Clients page for links to telnet software that will create a much more enjoyable experience.

PS Its not a good idea to publicly post your IP address. I'm surprised the MODS didn't delete that...

A good idea. A little late but I removed it now.
