Post subject:  Advice, please?

I saw the worldmap and I decided to go exploring a little off the mainland. I guess it was just my luck that the first island i stumbled upon had a firefox that killed me almost instantly. As a result, I'd like to pose a question to the playerbase and ask for help.

Firstly, which islands should I stay away from? I'd appreciate approximate locations or reference points rather than names, as I still don't know which island's which.

Secondly, I was wandering around in my ethereal form, and say my body wasn't there anymore. Did the firefox eat it along with...all my stuff?

Thanks.

If I recall right, firefoxes do tend to pick up stuff and wander around with it - as do the other denizens of that particular island. Each large island has it's quirks, but as the islands are mostly all controlled in game by the Empire, you'll find a book in their library that details them in length.

Honestly, there's a good chance while exploring anywhere that you're going to die (I always die every time I leave home it seems). If you want to find "safe" places to check out, find a friendly old timer and ask them to show you around (or where you think you should explore). Ethereal form will save you from quite a bit, but the more I explore, the more scary things I find that can shift into the safe plane of existence! :(

As far as your body goes: NPCs can't destroy things. A few things could have happened: the NPC picked up your body and wandered away with it (not gone, just being held, but on a firefox, that makes it very hard to get back); a PC came upon it, took what they wanted of your things, destroyed the rest and the body; a friendly PC came across your body and decided to kindly bury it for you so no one would steal anything out of it; the "realms shifted" (reboot/crash) before you got back to your body (although I read elsewhere that player bodies are saved for a certain amount of time after a planned reboot); or you were looking in the wrong room for your body. Whether or not your body is still about can be solved by asking a friendly caster to locate your corpse.

My suggestion would be to start with priests when looking for help. They have a lot of connections, and if they can't help you, they'll probably know who can.

*nod* Alright, thanks so much for your help Aneira and Goldlantern. I'm still in the river of death so I'll try to get myself resurrected first by a friendly priest and hopefully, the friendly priest can tell me what are good places to wander to. Thanks!!

PC bodies do not get lost with crashing and rebooting as they are saved items that last quite a while. I think I've read that they last something like eight hours? It may be more, and it may be less. I am sure, though, that he didn't lose it from "the realms shifting."

I'm sure they'll be helpful. Priests are usually lovely people who love to cuddle newbies and give them cookies.

I may or may not play a priest. 8)

There are some NPCs scripted to junk all on the ground when they respawn.

If anyone is interested in exploring, there is a quest within Uxmaln Library for anyone to take, suitable content for mostly solo and some grouping. It takes adventurers to the edges of world in SK, some remote islands, and the reward is generous and worthwhile*. It is very much a self-guided tour (with a friend or two) to SK while reading the journal. Designed by Werttrew, a great imm who is sometimes with us.

(* griffons' reward debatable)

I hate those NPCs...but happy they now exist! The hoarding that use to occur.

NPCs cannot lift PC corpses.
