 Post subject: newbie, not sure where to begin

Heya. I haven't played a mud in a while and am hoping to kill some time here, but I'm just kind of lost trying to pick a starting character. I've rolled a few characters and looked through towns without really seeing people, so I'm turning here in hopes of hearing something. Are there any kingdom/class choices that will give me a relatively easier time starting/being desired in groups?

If you want interaction, priest is the best answer and we are always in need of them. To a lesser extent, paladins and hellions make good choices because you get invested into a church early and therefore, have plenty of people with you.

Priest is a good choice, or a sorceror. If you play a sorceror you can do so many things solo that would require groups for other classes. So it's kind of an advantage while exploring the MUD and learning new areas. Also they have many of the most useful spells in the game. As far as your alignment think of a concept and roll with it man. Personally I just make a character and play it like I'm writing a book. Although I will say I think Uxmal has by far the highest PC population at any given time. Though be warned Uxmal is a damn crazy city and anything can happen there so you'll need tough skin :-D Taslamar is also another fairly high population area. Good luck!

My suggestion for you is to make a human priest, preferably grey or if you want light aura, BUT make it a heavy-armored priest (religions of Alshain, Dulrik, Sargas, Algorab -- the last two being dark-aura) so that training up to veteran isn't so bad. You'll be able to wear steel and not die if you end up facing creatures yourselves.

I say light aura because there really is more light-aura characters out there and most of the playerbase tends to be much nicer to the light aura then the dark aura'ed characters.

I think the best would be a basic fighter. Mercenarys, barbarians, swashbucklers.

One is you don't have to worry so much about them. Priest, sorcerors, and warlocks go into a bit more detail. Why worry about HP, ME, and PE for a starter and just worry about HP and PE.

At least I think go with a fighter until you get a better grip on the game before switching to spell casters.

The main reason I would strongly recommend a priest to begin with over a warrior is that I learned the game by playing the warrior classes and now playing a more magic-based character is absurdly difficult for me. It seems it would be much easier the other way around.

I learned on hellions, and I played a paladin or two as well. Seems to be my picks for sure. You get melee skills and spells, paladins can even heal.

One of the things to keep in mind, if you do choose to roll a sorc/priest, is that they're not the easiest to level. Other than that, their advantage is that they present you with lots of great RP opportunities. Their disadvantage is that you can easily become tired of being people's [REDACTED] all the time and just stop playing the game. :P They do require a bit more patience, but they're definitely worth it. :)

Sorcerors/priests are great starting classes for 3 reasons:

1. People approach you for enchants, various other utility spells, resurrection's etc and often help back.

2. They have divination spells like identify and locate object, which are VERY important for a newbie who doesn't know by heart the attributes of commonly found items or where/how to find equipment easily.

3. They have great spells that help in exploration, like gate, teleport, flight by various means etc
