This is probably a stupid question, but if I'm putting around on an alt because I don't have much to do on my main, and I see someone log on the who list who my main wants to interact with, is it a bad thing to log right off my alt and back on my main? How long should I wait if it is? |

Not a stupid question at all! It can be a blurry line. If your alt isn't really involved in any goings on, I wouldn't see an issue with a quick logoff/logon main. If things are happening, though, I'd log off, take long enough to brew a pot of coffee, or a bathroom stop, let the dog out - something like that, give time for things to cool down. And remember that what your alt knows, your main does not, and vice versa. |

As long as it is purely for rp, there's nothing to worry about. If you're just doing it to pk them, then it starts being frowned upon. |

Heh, if I had an alt, and logged off say when someone was attacking m friends from my main, I'd get cursed/helled and other such stuff, and therefore, I am no longer allowed to have alts.(for that amongst various other reasons) |

I would suggest the logoff/watch 3 music videos/logon type of timing for such circumstances, and only if it's RP-based. Maybe I'm a bit nervous about situations like that myself, but it's always good to err on the side of caution. You've been seeking a religion for 2 rl weeks and you see the HF on the wrong char? Yeah, logoff, wait 10 min, logon the right char and go to town. |

I have had times where I have logged in with the wrong character or logged in and saw someone I really wanted to interact with on another character. I have the choice to log out quickly, wait for a little bit, and then log in the other or just go about my business with the one I logged in. You very rarely want to switch characters frequently in the game. It suddenly becomes quite obvious who is playing who when you see character A log out, character B log in and log out in 5 minutes, character A is back in. Specific things you should NEVER do: Log out a character, log in the other to grab equipment/coins, log out and log back in the other. Log out a character, log in the other to cast ANY spells, log out and log back in the other. Specific things you should DO: Have a messenger you use and have someone trying to get you to cheat in the game, block them. Have someone who seems to know your alt can aid them and they are asking you OOC for that help, pray up and report them and tell them not to bother you and ask you to help you cheat. I have seen at least two players lose GM leveled priests for cheating. It's stupid. There are always ways to get back to life. The Who List is an IC tool, but as for switching characters, you have to judge your motives for the change and decide if it falls within a decent reason to switch (logging out one because someone you have been holding armor for just logged in, BAD! logging out because the HP you have been waiting for to be invested to logged in, FAIR!) And like others have said, logging out one character who is in the MIDDLE of something to log in another to deal with something FAR LESS importanat (such as passing off armor or logging in to help someone) is TACKY and should be CURSED. * The last line is directed purely at one player who was doing such things who shall not be named. Needless to say, I hope said player understands the amount of frustration caused by those actions by others forced to interact with the character that kept disappearing. |

IMO it doesn't matter the timing. The multi playing rule says not to play two characters at the same time or share information between two characters, but you aren't really sharing vital information just because you see a character you want to interact with. If you see some one you want to PK, then go ahead and do it. PK is a part of RP, but don't just log on PK say "ha ha I killed you" then log back off again. A main is a main for a reason, and alts are made to mess around with. Not sharing information really doesn't apply here. i.e. You ask a friend if there is a priest on they say "I don't sense one" whats the difference between "sensing" when you are logged in with a certain character or not. the Who list I feel is OOC info anyways but a necessity. Use it to your advantage. If it was illegal for us to do this or innappropiate there would be a rule, so unless an imm has anything to say about it I would go ahead and do it. Kyle |
