Basically its an RP subject.
The Yed faith considers warlocks that don't offer thanks to Yed for use of the elements parasites, and are branded and deathmarked.

To put it simply.

While you don't have to follow Yed. It is usually advisable to give homage to him every once in a while. Yed just wants to be thanked. No more, no less.

Isn't that just a hold-over from the days of Khore? Yed isn't known as the "lord of the elemental planes."
