Okay, this is a simple question ... is there any sort of OOC channel within the game itself?

No.

There aren't any OOC channels in the game (I'm a recent newbie myself and it took me awhile to figure out too.) However, if you read the forums and the info on the website, you should be well on your way and generally if you have a question, people are pretty good at answering here on the forums fairly quickly.

It was a bit frustrating at first, but I'm glad I stuck it out.

Hope to see you around!

If you're in need of help in-game, you can use the MENTOR command to try to get help. If someone responds, try to stay IC in your TELL conversation if at all possible.

Example: You want to say 'I'm new to the game and I need help.' You can change it to 'I just arrived in town and I'm totally lost.'

If absolutely necessary, you can TELL person OOC 'what you want here.' OOC being 'out of character', and you can be guided. Whoever is helping may help you to phrase it in an IC way and may not, but will likely help you understand matters. But try to phrase your OOC questions in an IC manner if at all possible.

If you get no help from the MENTOR command, use WHO to find a list of players online and try to pick out a character with an important-sounding title. Then TELL that character something along the lines of 'I just arrived in town and I'm totally lost.' If that person can't help, that person may direct you to a different person for you to TELL your questions.

Edit: If the character doesn't use OOC in the REPLY, the REPLY is in-character. You might get a lot of tude in the response but still get useful info.

Example: You're speaking Taslamaran and you TELL someone from the north. That person from the north may 'show you hate' in-character, but will likely provide you with aid to direct you to the help you need. Badguy replies 'I don't deal with worthless trash like you. Go cry to (other character online) and don't bother me.' You just got told who can help you.

I wish there was an ooc channel so I could shun everyone more actively.

Why would you wish to shun true newbies when it's more fun to shun perma-newbs like me?

Oops, I helped you derail the thread. And you were the one to tell me to take another to GD so you could laugh at me more safely. :P

We don't get along enough out of character for there to be an OOC channel.

Seriously though, Pushing40 pretty much hit the nail on the head. People will help you IC about 90% of the time or direct you to someone who will. We were all newbies once, and some of us never grow out of it...

The OOC preface works for pray, too:

Quote:
pray OOC Can someone up there help me? I think I just set my adjective to "kill".

OOC is begrudging accepted in tells and group tells/gtells, but is frowned upon in says, yells, and on cabal channels.

Peace,
Bux

What a great adjective, I think I'll use that for my next character.

A kill male halfling is here.
