Post subject:  Resist Elements

Hey I have a simple question about this spell. According to the description, I get the idea that this will also affect non-warlock spells. Does this in fact help protect against "elemental" spells such as flamestrike, hellfire, call lightning etc. that warlocks don't receive? Any clarification will be appreciated. Thanks.

Flamestrike is holy. Not flame. You'll notice later on that flamestrike affects fire elementals.

Hellfire is negative energy. Which also affects fire elementals.

I thought RE did work on flamestrike? Hmm guess you learn something new every day.

Hellfire is half fire half negative energy: My guess is that flamestrike is half divine, half fire (I thought it was all fire myself until I read this thread, but the whole fire elemental thing does prove that wrong). I'm nearly positive that RE helps against these spells, although probably only half as much as against purely elemental spells.

I dont think it does against hellfire. The helpfile says since it is half negative and half fire, if they can be hurt by either, they take full damage. Might only be referring to resistant type "races" like fire elementals or undead. It does do more damage to centaurs so maybe it is also affected by RE. Dunno to be completely honest.

Well, one time Tragonis (Moreytia, centaur barbarian hammer) was dueling Slayne, and he asked me for a RE potion beforehand to deal with hellfire.

I'm taking Trag's word for it that it helps against hellfire.

He won, at least.

Simple answer, when in doubt use it anyways.

flamestrike, last i checked, cooks centaurs pretty hard. the half fire half holy thing makes sense. as for hellfire, assuming RE helps against anything fire-based, the RE would've prevented trag from taking double damage.

what about acid blast?

The damage reduction from non-GM RE (meaning, anything brewed), is not going to be significant enough to turn the tide in any but the closest of battles. However, technically it should reduce the fire-side damage from Hellfire and Flamestrike. It should work against the shaman spell Call Lightning as well.

RE is generally only, though specifically good, for preventing magma cling. Prior to magma damage ignoring MP, even that benefit was lost entirely, since a low to mid level shield spell was negating any cling damage entirely.

OA is right about that. It's primary use is to avoid magma cling. While it does make a difference with other spells (And against elemental weapon damage as well) the different is much less noticeable, even from a casted spell.
