Hey, so I made a new character after not playing for a while and having my old characters auto delete because I forgot about the game.

I wanted to see how the new xp changes would be. It seems pretty fast, with just a few kills getting me levels when I first get to an area. It took me 25 hours to get to veteran(3) but that includes a few hours spent getting voided out and dcd a few times.

I realized that as a helf sorc i can't sleep with a NPC charmed. I've never played a sorc before, but as a necro I would try to keep enough concentration available to sleep.

So did I make a huge mistake going half-elf sorceror? It looks like gnome is better in every way...

As someone who has played a half-elf sorc: unless you have very good RP reasons for playing one, reroll. Human, gnomes and deep-elves are all very viable as sorcerers. Half-elves just don't have the intelligence for it.

Half-elves are okay, but not if you want a charm. It makes you more dependent on bards so you don't have to sleep. Very annoying really.

Giant warlocks are okay also, but not if you want an elemental.

I currently play a half-elf sorc, and let me just say, it's hurt. In PvP with another sorc, you will die. When charming, you can't do crap.

I ditto reroll. I would have but it was too late - I put so much RP into it, and I'm at the point now that I'm getting int for age ticks, so it's getting better.

My character doesn't charm much anyway, so it wasn't that bad.

At this point, it really depends how attached you are to your character, or if you're up for a challenge. As a newbie, I don't recommend it. You want your experience to be as easy as possible.

Thanks for the advice. I'm giving it another shot with a better race. Maybe I will stick with it on this guy.

The drifter is far from a newbie.

It's a good choice. They have high int which is a sorc prerequisite. The only thing you need to be mindful of is the weaknesses. Elves are weak to negative energy and iron.

A LONG time ago you used to not be able to sleep while holding a charm with an elf. Is that no longer the case?
