Sorry if these have been asked before, but I couldn't find any answers using the search function or in help files. 1. If you fail at stealing from a player do both players automatically engage in combat? 2. Is it possible to steal things that are worn by a player? I noticed the container I was wearing randomly disappeared at some point. |

A failed stealing attempt is considered a mugging attempt, and works out as if you tried to attack the person, so yes, both you and he will engage in combat, as well as anyone in your groups with auto-assist on. As far as I know, it's not possible at all to steal items that a person is wearing. Only what he has in his inventory or his container. P.S. And as long as his container is open. |

This may be the result of the item level code: While in SK even a character fresh out of the creation halls can wear any weapon or any armor, every item held that is above their character level has a chance to be "stolen" when they log into the game. If your container was perhaps, a shroud of quicksilver, instead of a normal old backpack, then it's possible that if you weren't very high in level that your shroud could be stolen from you when you logged back in. I've lost containers before, it stinks. You can tell if you got hit by logout thieves if you log in and get the white message "While you were away, some thieves stole some of your belongings!" Or something like that. |

Quote: Since your last adventure, thieves set upon you and stole some of your items!
that's the message, you get it as soon as you log in, right after the description of your current location. |

When failing to steal from a PC, you do not engage in combat I do not think. That only happens to NPC's if I remember right. |

Failing to steal from a PC will get you outlawed if in a law area, but will not initiate combat. Failing a steal from an NPC will initiate combat and get you outlawed if you are in a law area. |

Failing a steal from an NPC will initiate combat and get you outlawed if you are in a law area. Thought so, thanks for clearing it up. |

Don't listen to Turon, he thought you were talking about "level-thieves", a mechanism that ensures that low level characters will lose high-level gear. This has NOTHING to do with rogues stealing stuff. |
